Former U.S. President Donald Trump delivers remarks after exiting the courtroom as he attends his Manhattan courthouse trial in a civil fraud case in New York, U.S., October 18, 2023. Future violations by Trump could be punished by steeper fines and possible imprisonment, Justice Arthur Engoron said in an order. Engoron said in the order that a social media post by Trump attacking the judge's clerk - which was deleted from the former president's Truth Social platform - had remained visible on his campaign website two weeks after he had ordered it taken down. Trump at times has appeared in person at the ongoing trial, attacking James and Engoron in inflammatory remarks to reporters outside of the courtroom. Trump, who has sought to portray the case as intended to hurt him politically, has denied wrongdoing and defended his asset valuations.

"Despite this order, last night I learned the offending post was never removed from a website. This is a blatant violation of the gag order. The frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination for the presidency was also hit with a partial gag order in a federal criminal case accusing him of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington on Monday barred him from verbally attacking U.S. prosecutors, court staff and potential witnesses, pointing to disparaging social media posts. Trump plans to appeal that order.

Tesla is suing the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, members of the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission and a group of dealers. The Justice Department and lawyers for Tesla said U.S. civil antitrust law does not require a showing of intent. Adding that requirement would "improperly" restrict antitrust law, Justice Department lawyers told the appeals court. Tesla countered in the appeal that Louisiana car dealers had "agreed with one another to harass Tesla with baseless investigations and drive it out of the state." The case is Tesla v. Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association et al, 5th U.S.

Chesebro pleaded guilty in a Fulton County court to conspiracy to commit filing of false documents, one day after another former lawyer for Trump, Sidney Powell, also pleaded guilty in the case that had been scheduled to begin on Monday. The plea agreements mean that the first scheduled trial in the case, which was set to give Trump and other co-defendants a preview of the state’s case, will not happen. The Georgia case is one of four state or federal criminal cases that Trump is facing and one of two specifically focused on his attempts to overturn his election defeat. Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has pleaded not guilty and continues to falsely claim his loss was the result of fraud. The move suggests the company is taking a more cautious approach to how much money it can charge online sellers, the Bloomberg report said. Effective Oct. 1, Amazon was planning to impose a new 2% fee on every sale by third-party sellers that ship their products themselves, according to media reports in August. The FTC is expected to file a lawsuit against Amazon later this month after the company did not offer concessions to settle antitrust claims, the Wall Street Journal reported. The FTC began probing the company during the Trump administration, when it also launched investigations into other tech majors. Amazon has been criticized for allegedly favoring its own products over those from outside sellers on its platform.

Defendant Andrew Lester was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action for shooting Ralph Yarl, 16, on the doorstep of his suburban home on April 13. Lester fired two shots through a glass door with a .32-caliber revolver, according to prosecutors. Yarl was struck in the head and an arm, apparently before crossing the threshold or exchanging any words with Lester, according to Clay County prosecutor Zachary Thompson. Lester was freed on his own recognizance soon after being detained following the shooting. His swift release fueled days of protest before he was charged days later and he turned himself back in to police.
